Fernwood Elementary School is located on the North end of Salt Spring Island. We have 174 students from Kindergarten to Grade 5. Our school offers many opportunities for young children to explore their interests. In addition to dedicated classroom teachers and support staff, we offer a beautiful learning garden and greenhouse program, an outdoor classroom space, sports teams, a student leadership program, and peer helper support. Visiting artists offer yoga, dance, visual arts, clay work, and other opportunities for students to try new ways of creative expression.
Student learning is enhanced by the use of technology including coding robots, ipads, and 3-printer, a school librarian and library clerk, Learning Services staff, community based counsellors, and community partners including Artists in the Classroom, Salt Spring Literacy One-to-One volunteer readers and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
