What an amazing turn out at the Fernwood Bike to School Event that took place Wednesday! Children rode their bikes to and from school (and also brought them to school for tune ups - thank you parents!). Thank you to Sean Mulligan and Katie Watt (Avelyn's mom and dad), to Elizabeth FitzZaland (Maeve and Marin's mom), Robin Jenkinson, Jenny Redpath from Island Health and the many volunteers from Island Pathways who came with them to help. Kids received goody bags, tune ups, bike safety tips and had an opportunity to show off their skills riding around the grounds. If you're interested in further advancing your bike skills, sign up for special bike-park workshops on Friday, May 31st at Mouat Park (ages 6-9 from 10:30am-noon; ages 10-12 from 1-3pm; pizza lunch for purchase in between). Thanks to the Firefighters' Association, tickets are available by donation at Outspokin Bikes, 131 McPhillips Ave. More about this week's events is in this week's Driftwood (https://www.gulfislandsdriftwood.com/news/gearing-up-for-bike-to-work-week/), and more about Bike-to-School BC, including a video contest, can be found here: https://www.biketowork.ca/bike-to-school. |
