Parents and students are invited to the renewed Enhancement Agreement Unveiling Ceremony Wednesday, February 26th. An invitation is attached. If you would like to attend (and are not in Ms Bain's and Ms Pyper's class who are two of our classes that are going) you may sign your child out to take them. The ceremony is at Salt Spring Elementary School from 10:30 to 11:30 am. This is a description of what the ceremony will look like: ~Just a little history and short explanation about the ceremony we are going to do for the Indigenous agreement unveiling. It’s called a blanket ceremony and it’s one of the most sacred ceremonies that we do. We blanket those people who have brought this work to life through their hard work to wrap them in our love and friendship and the dancers and drummers then sing them in with the agreement as a means to clear the way for the work to be done, essentially to open the door to walk through to a new beginning or a new way of life. ~from our Elder Tousilum and his wife, Deb. ~ This is an event that is open to everyone (Indigenous or Non Indigenous), and therefore everyone is welcome to attend. |
