Important Information for Bus Riders

Registration:

If you would like your child to ride the bus, please check in with the School office and we will help you to register your child to ride either  Bus #4 or Bus #5 depending on the bus stop. We must provide information to the Bus Supervisor at Plant Services including the child's name, grade, a parent contact name, a phone number and address and most importantly the stop name. If it is easier for you to email this information to us please email Leah at lashford@sd64.org

Kindergarten and Grade 1 Riders:

Kindergarten and Grade 1 students cannot disembark from the bus without a parent being present at the stop.  To stay on schedule the driver must continue on (as they must be on time for the other school runs that begins after Fernwood's run - they do the highschool run immediately after). If your child misses their stop or is not met by a parent, your child stays on the bus safe with the Driver and is escorted to the Bus Depot. Your child will be at the SD64 Maintenance Building at 160 Rainbow Road (250-537-5723)  for you to pick them up. The approximate route end times for both buses is 4:20 pm.

Accommodating Bus Changes

Our District 64 Transportation Supervisor, along with the Drivers of our Fernwood Buses #4 and #5 would like to send a reminder to parents and students that the longstanding policy that afterschool arrangements must be made ahead of time (no “same day” playdates) is still in effect.

Please continue to be as clear with your child about afterschool plans. If your child's Teacher uses a planner, write it in the student planner to help your child remember.  Bus Transportation Services continues to require a note that will be passed on to your driver (or their substitute driver that day) if your child is getting off at a stop that differs from their normal scheduled stop, otherwise your child will not be permitted to get off the bus. Please avoid phoning the school with last minute changes. Staff, Teachers and Bus Drivers appreciate your cooperation and guidance to ensure your child’s safety.

Bus Safety Talks

Students will have "Bus Safety Talks" in the next few weeks put on by our District Bus Drivers at Fernwood School.  Students will learn the proper procedure for crossing the street safely to and from the school bus and also how good behaviour on a school bus impacts positively on everyone's safety!
