Laura Kiel is teaching students in Ms Curtis's, Ms Michaux, Ms Jones and Ms Pyper's classes. Laura makes hand-built ceramics, often large scale bowls and vases. She has worked restoring antique textiles and as a break baker. her academic art knowledge includes the New York State College of Ceramics, the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Washington. 

The purpose of the  "Artist in the Classroom" program, sponsored by the SSI Arts Council, is to give the arts a stronger presence in the everyday lives of students by bringing the artists of Salt Spring Island to class to share their skills and to create an awareness of arts in our community.
